When the firewood was delivered to Fondei in mid-May and we were getting ready for this year’s work trip, we didn’t expect to find scorching heat instead of snow.
On May 30th, six highly motivated Huttli & Candidates escaped the August heat in Zurich to get the Fondei hut ready for the upcoming season.
After arriving by car, on foot and by gravel bike, the group immediately got active and things got underway.:
- Wood stacked
- Wool blankets shaken out
- Fence set up
- New cushions prepared
- All kitchen cabinets emptied and cleaned
- Spring water supply cleand
- First aid kit, smoke detectors, and emergency exit signs installed, and the emergency escape ladder tested

With so many helping hands, all the work was completed on time, and the hut manager was able to invite all the helpers to a delicious Apéro and BBQ, which Felix expertly prepared on the wood shavings and other leftovers from his delivery.
On Sunday, the hut was cleaned out, and various scrap metal, old cushions, and 15 liters of petroleum were packed up for disposal. While Felix and Amanda hopped on their bikes, the rest of the group visited Chistenstein and traversed the ridge to the Mattjischhorn.
