Alpstein Weekend Climb&Hike

Alpstein Weekend Climb&Hike

The weather was forecasted quite wet, stormy and cold for the weekend of Oct. 28th 2023. This scared off a few but four were still convinced that it could turn into a great weekend. When we arrived in Wildhaus by public transport, we found blue sky, dry rock and an amazing view of Säntis. Soon, team Climbing and team Hiking split and while Milo and Hannes went to Schafbergwand to climb Knecht Ruprecht, Tamara and Hans visited Jöchli Spitz on the way to Zwinglipasshütte.

Later, just before dinner, we all met again at Zwinglipasshütte to enjoy the evening on this great hut which is serviced by Volunteers of SAC Toggenburg.

On the next morning, weather changed a bit. The sky was a bit overcasted and Föhn was coming up. While Hans and Tamara enjoyed the hiking on the steep grassy slopes at Mutschen, Milo and Hannes tried to climb at VIII. Kreuzspitze first but were pushed back by the strong winds. They changed plans and finally finished a cold north-faced climb at Gätterispitz.

Overall, we enjoyed a fantastic weekend in one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Switzerland.
